Clearly, they are not being affected by announcement 312-001. I suspect they are
being affected instead by US Announcement (ZA11-1029) dated July 5, 2011, that
announced similar price increases for EWLC charges effective January 1, 2012.
EWLC was not included in 312-001 because the price increases had already been
previously announced and went into effect at the start of the year.
Prices went up last year for various DB2 tools, QMF, DITTO, and other IBM
software effective July 1, 2011 (311-004) and there are some other price
increases coming in 2012. For example, prices for CICS/TS V3 are going up in
July (ZA11-1002).
IBM's price increases are good news for competing ISVs that have been able to
hold the line on prices. They also come at a time when IBM has completely
eliminated the hardware Technology Dividend--which used to provide an automatic
10% discount--across the board--for all System z software priced in MSU.
