IRD does have it's merits, a parallel sysplex will likely consist of
multiple LPARs which span multiple CPC. IRD will help the LPARs on the same
CPC (AND are also in the same sysplex)

An example where this can be useful is if say within that sysplex, some LPAR
are CMC support network related workloads, while others LPARs (within the
same CPC and sysplex) support CICS workloads. Because of the different
workload, and the fact workload normally have an affinity (ie. work started
on one LPAR must finish there) IRD is useful in that it will be able to move
resource around where needed.

AFAIK DCM only works with ESCON channel and switches (so only ESCON and
FICON bridge/converter)
