Luis,

I would expect that non-IBM products using SMF numbers would have a
customization option to set the number the product uses according to an
installation's convention.

I would expect that, in many cases, 255 is a default, there being no -
reasonable - way a non-IBM product would know which number in the 128-255
number range to use.

If you have lost track of SMF records, perhaps it would be useful to take an
inventory of the products which record to SMF and keep a record of the SMF
numbers they use.

But, it's been a few years since we had one.
ISTR, that 255 was the record used.
