I remember an issue of the IBM Installation Newsletter back in the late 1960s.

It described an elaborate modification.  Basically you assembled the Lord's 
Prayer into object
form as a load of DCs and then applied it to every non-iplable volume as 
IPLTXT.  During error
recovery on 2311s and 2314s the ERP used a "recalibrate" command - a seek to 
cylinder zero and
a read of Track 0.

This would read the prayer before the heads went back for another go at reading 
the error
track.
