Thanks Mark. What about dataset aliases?  Is there a requirement that
the real dataset and the alias have to be in the same catalog?

There is no performance impact from using MLA=2, unless we can't find
the two-level HLQ on the catalog it is pointing to.  Then we go back to
the single HLQ and search the catalog that points to.  But if you move
your data sets to the catalog pointed to by the two-level HLQ you will
have no performance problems.
