And newer, higher capacity drives generally have a higher bit density, therefore more data on a track than older, lower density drives. The result is that data transfer is at a higher rate with the same RPM. All this is speculation, though, because Ted didn't tell us what drives are in the "Old EMC" or in the "Latest and greatest."
