Depending on what the purpose of the clear is. Sometimes it was done just to make sure a count was not negative, or to get rid of an x'80' call list delimiter, in which case you're okay. My point is that sure, there a thousand reasons why it might not work, but no inherent reason not to give it a try. There's no guarantee that it WON'T work.
