BTW, what is "Weib"? My first guess was "wife", but that is an
uneducated guess.

English uses wife and woman distinctly to describe a married adult female and an unspecified mature female. At some point Weib used to mean wife, and Frau woman, but during the last hundred years or so the distinction has blurred, with the intended meaning usually clear from context, and Weib becoming (slightly) derogatory.
