Kevin,

With our last Dasd upgrade we went to Mod-27s where possibe (the large
SMS pools), to Mod-9s for our system volumes and other smaller pools and
defined some mod-3s and mod-1s to fill the eight-packs and use them for
dedicated volumes like JES2 checkpoint, catalogs etc.

No problem for current software.

Be aware if you want to go beyond mod-27s (more than 32767 cylinders) up
to mod-54. The halfword cylinderaddress will have the top-bit on and
software much support this. Check your vendors for this.

Kees.

considering going to all mod-9s or higher. Other than the 64k-1 track
limit that was "fixed" in z/OS 1.7, are there any technical gotchas if I
use mod-9s as system volumes?
