Rex,

Perhaps they did not explain themselves correctly.

Only Hitachi writes the microcode for the RAID500 storage controller.
Sometimes they add things especially for HP, sometimes they add things just
for us, and sometimes they add things for everybody.

This is true from the 7700E/XP256 through to the current USP/XP1024. The
difference is simply the Vendor ID and the names of the software displayed
in Storage Navigator or the Service Processor.

The difference is really in the software and API. To over-simplify, software
will simply verify the vendor id. If one of our software exclusives finds a
HPQ vendor id then it will apply any required limitations - including not
recognising it at all. The same is true for HP exclusive software when it
finds a HDS box.

I heard similar misquotes about microcode development, but I think that it
was cleared up many years ago. HP is a great partner of Hitachi, and I for
one think that XP storage is fantastic :)
