Subject: Re: WHY IS JCL ALLERGIC TO LOWER CASE?

<snip>
      Actually, many people were never convinced that
throwing the switch to "display upper only" didn't
automagically convert all of their lower case to
upper. Then they came to the sysprogs and asked why they
were getting JCL errors. They generally left unconvinced, too.

<snip>

Without naming anyone or any company, there was a situation where
someone KNEW that the sysprog(s) reading dumps that were taken (to
diagnose any failures they might have) had the A/Aa switch set to "A".

So in order to force a certain MVS system to crash so that a much needed
IPL could be done (which management was flat out refusing to allow),
someone changed the Master Scheduler's ASCB eyecatcher to "aSCB". So the
persons reading the SAD (Stand-Alone-Dump), having their case switch set
to "A"....

I wonder if this is considered a DOS attack -- all because of the
upper/LOWER religion...

Later,
Steve Thompson
