Regarding the carry-on vs. checked-baggage,
the-wait-is-too-long-I've-got-things-to-do issue.

Let's look at what, to me, is the root cause of the problem: the root
cause is not the airport delays due to security (although the security
folks can themselves be annoying). The problem is that people tend to
schedule their business trips with a minimal amount of time to spare for
travel and _no_ time for disruptions to the schedule:

"let's see, I fly into Atlanta at 9:00 AM, get a car, and am making the
presentation by 11:30 PM, then I'm out of there and flying out of Atlanta
by 2:00 PM to..."

either the person travelling, or their employer, needs to adjust their
travel expectations to match the reality of how travel is accomplished
these days. If you build into your "world view" the necessary time,
waiting for your luggage is "merely" some downtime. With EV-DO or Wi-Fi
cards that time waiting for luggage can sometimes be spent "productively"
(although I personally believe that just sitting and thinking can be
productive, others don't always agree).
