Tommy, The key is to pass a volser to the following step. You can just change the DSN= to use a temporary name. As someone else mentioned, you can omit IDCUT* DDs if you add DFSORT to the BLDINDEX command. That may be worth a test. We use a third party product to build alternate indices and the IDCUT* DDs may never actually be used in our shop. Good luck. John
