So you can't SAR an Encrypted tape?
Correct. The encrypted tapes require some software to be running, like
the key manager and key store. Since SAR is stand-alone, it can read or
write encrypted tapes. The same is true for the DFSMSdss stand-alone
restore program. So any volumes that you intend to restore with
stand-alone like SAR must not be encrypted
