Unfortuantely, the IBM supplied "diff" command is nowhere near adequate, IMO. I am too used to the GNU version of "diff". One major difference, the IBM "diff" will not descend subdirectories as will the GNU "diff". So you must do some "fancy" stuff to look in /etc and all its subdirectories.
