While I find it reasonable to believe what ISMF tells me, the fact
remains that not everything always works perfectly. If the SCDS or ACDS
gets corrupted or if ISMF has a coding error, the results of LISTVOL
could be different than an actual allocation.

LISTVOL is probably correct in indicating a volume is eligible for
allocation but until a data set is actually allocated my paranoia has a
field day.

Actually a LISTVOL against a storage group under ISMF will prove the
entry is there and whether it is enabled or not..

One of the options in ISMF is to process test cases. You have to
manually specify all the input relevant input parameters but it will
then tell you what classes and group the ACS routines assigned.

Since the ACS routines do not assign volumes, the only way to PROVE the
volume is really being used is to actually allocate something to it. A
space parameter larger than the available space on any other volume in
the group usually works.
