I used that but in a different way in the hospital early this year. I
am en extremely difficult person to draw blood from and I am not a
morning person (without coffee) .
At the god unearthly hour of 6AM a nurse tried to take blood from me. I
informed her I was an hard draw. She poked me once and of course
couldn't get any blood. I looked at her and told her: "You know the
saying 3 strikes and you are out" she looked at me and said I
understand and on the second try she still could not get blood. I told
her you have one last try and you are out of here. She said "OK" and
she got her 3rd try and I said good bye. She had to go to a senior
nurse to find someone that could get blood on the first try. After the
nurse got (finely) some blood they approached the doctor and suggested
I have a "PIK" line installed (long story omitted) but from then on it
was just like turning on a spigot.

Similar story at induction time (into the Army). Lt. Nurse missed after
five tries. Full Colonel Dr. took one try, after he listened to me.
