In our case, all systems were at the same OS level(1.6), but the offending maint had only made it into our development environment. I had received, and applied it, and IPL'd it into dev, and experienced the problem the day after the the PTF went into error. The actual catalog hang was on a usercat(shared on all systems in the plex, but separate mastercats), that did hold up production for a short time, until the catalog restart on the development system that was waiting freed things up.
