It sounds like you might have a duplicate NVR in the VVDS on the volume.  Try 
to salvage what you can from the PDSE in question by copying it to another 
dataset with a different name on a different volume.  Delete the PDSE in 
question.  Then, use IDCAMS to print the VVDS.  Search the VVDS printout for 
the dataset name of the PDSE that you just deleted.  If it's not there, then 
this is not your problem.  If it is there, you should be able to do a "DELETE 
dataset NVR FILE(xxx)" to correct this situation for the next time.  (Point a 
DD 
card "xxx" to the volser in question.)

If you do have a duplicate NVR, and can't identify how it got there, you should 
still open a PMR, since something is wrong, and this problem will only crop up 
again.  And, if you can identify how it got there, you now know not to do 
(whatever you did) again!
