I think most programmers were in love with that kind of power - until
we discovered the downside.   Now we *still* want that power - but
moderated.

I read an article that said that Macintosh's aren't safe because they
aren't a target, but because they were willing to start over, with a
new (Unix) core.

Even mainframers have to use a multitude of systems as our universes
merge.   Sometimes we need to step back and evaluate what we've got -
and be willing to start over.
