In response to SCR, I am so glad to discover that I am not alone in my 'unappreciation' of the product. I am installing 1.7 via ServerPac. I was able to download the manuals and extract them. I had some extra work to do, but, I am using the PDF versions and am quite happy just 'pointing & clicking' to read the manual.
