If you do see an IBM software product that isn't yet available on the
mainframe -- one of the shrinking number -- and you'd strongly
consider
buying it for the mainframe, go ahead and ask your IBM rep. That
goes for
all software vendors, actually.

Timothy,
I really haven't been keeping up with IBM's software acquisitions all
that much. Are you suggesting that IBM is on a buying binge and will
continue to acquire more ISV products?
I am somewhat skeptical about this approach. I have not looked at any
of IBM's software buyouts for use in the day to day data center.
While I am happy that some vendors will get the make over IBM
treatment and redoing of the installation & maintenance and hopefully
standard naming conventions of modules and also a standard
maintenance philosophy. All that goodness is great news, but as with
goodness is the bad stuff i.e. OCO and IBM's reluctance to really
listen to users needs. Witness the *LONG LIST* of GUIDE requirements
that have been sitting around for more than 5 years (or more). Also
IBM's inflexibility when it comes to pricing for the small shop.
I am guarded about this whole situation and will take a wait and see
attitude, but I must tell you IBM does not have a good track record
in the past.
