In the "old" days, issuing lots of vary operator commands could
cause system problems - I am not sure if that has been fixed yet.
I have some sample source using IEEVARYD in the VARYDASD utility on
www.mximvs.com - you might be able to tailor that program to suit
your needs.
Rob,
Thanks for reminding me of this. This was a LONG time ago MVS 3.0 or
so. We had a MP and the commands weren't allowed to vary on paths but
one at a time. In steps our SE and writes an extension to a STC that
we ran to issue the commands for the operator. All he had to do was
say V PATH(340-35f,1), online and it would issue the commands on
behalf of the operator. I think we suggested to IBM that they come up
with a way to do it. At times we had to issue several hundred vary
commands and the operators were not quick typists. This STC was
extremely slick it would end up doing a lot of things it took IBM
ages to come up with. We were always grateful that we had an IBMer
that actually coded and we could use the results of his work daily.
