Hi:

I working with an account, where, believe it or not, they are currently running z/OS V1.R4 in a basic sysplex. The first order of business is to get them migrated to a supported level of z/OS, which is minimally V1R7.

Since V1R7 goes off support in September of next year (and they
obviously move slowly here), it would be desirable instead to migrate to
a later release, such as V1R8, rather than starting a second migration
shortly after completing the first. However, all documented processes
seem to take place in two steps (V1R7 first, then V1R8 or V1R9).

Does anyone out there know of a reasonable way of successfully bypassing
V1R7 and migrating to V1R8, when coming from V1R4? It will be
necessary for the new system to coexist in a basic sysplex with the current production system, which is now on V1R4 (just to make it interesting).
