You can always change the secondary allocation before open, like in: FOO DD DISP=OLD,DSN=BLA.FOO,SPACE=(CYL,(1,10)) Similary I am pretty sure you can change the secondary allocation with JFCB modification before OPEN and do OPEN TYPE=J.
