Or, as Ed Jaffe suggested, you can use Format 1 CCWs with EXCP in
unauthorized code. If your code is authorized, there is a lot more you
can do by modifying DEB fields after you OPEN your DCB.

BTDT. I once modified AMASPZAP to a full-volume ZAPPER by modifying the
extent fields in the DEB. If you specified a dsname of FORMAT5.DSCB on
the SYSLIB DD statement, I opened the VTOC, then modified the extent
values in the DEB. Fun to play with, but didn't really serve any useful
purpose. I have no idea where that program is now. :-)
