You might want to review the "and update" part of the above sentence. If the common area must be updated by the client, and you intend to acquire it a key 0-7, you will need a PC-ss routine defined by the server to perform the "update" on behalf of the client.

Mike Arnold was kind enough to suggest (offline) that only PC-cp is needed to update common. True. I was considering two solutions while only typing one. You might be able to avoid CSA altogether if the data area in question can be acquired in the private area of the server. Then you would need a PC-ss routine to access *and* update the area.
