Think I told this before but we had a Prof who went to work for MASSSTOR in
Silicon Valley and one of the first things they tried was to swap the IBM
internal processor with an Amdahl equivalent to save a few bucks per unit. For
ninety five percent of the time worked great,
other five percent was triage. Long story short the published specs and
internal speed were within tolerances, but the IBM processors didn't vary as
much
in their cycles under load.
