As long as the tablespace (or at least the partition in question) is
STOPPED to DB2, you should be able to use DSS to run a
backup/delete/restore. Remember that while DB2 sees the 6 datasets
(partitions) as a single entity, to DSS (and all of DFP for that matter),
it is six individual VSAM linear datasets.

Subject
Moving DB2 Partition Datasets with DFDSS

I have not worked with this particular issue in awhile. So I am looking
for some pointers.

I have a DB2 Partitioned Table space where one of the pieces is on a wrong
volume. I need to move it to a better home.

What I need to know is the best, and fastest way to do this.

The DB2 TS part is 6th in the partition. It is a 6000 cylinder data set,
and part 6 is spread across 6 different volumes in my pool. I need to
move one of those pieces from VOLS01 to VOLSX1.

Can I move just the one part or is it better to backup the whole part 6,
delete and then use DFDSS to restore it back to the pool? My DBA says no
one is using that table right now, so I can do what I need.

Typically I would backup it up to tape (the whole thing), delete it, and
then restore from the backup tape. I just do not know if that is the best
way to do it for a DB2 partition or if there is a better way. The DBAs
have indicated it will take too long to do a reorg on the table itself.
