Hi all,

A colleague of mine heard a rumour that the Distributed FileManager/MVS component ("DFM") of DFSMSdfp is being deprecated by IBM, if not due for complete removal from z/OS.

I was kinda hoping to find an answer while at SHARE in Austin, but ... you know how it is: too many sessions, too much information; and anyway DFSMS isn't really my own speciality.

I noticed that the NFS and SMB components of DFS (as opposed to DFM) have been considerably enhanced, and nicely accomodate many of the remote client scenarios for which DFM was originally designed. So perhaps deprecating DFM - except for legacy ("heritage"?) APPC client apps - would make sense.

Anyway, does anyone have any guidance for us here ... will DFM continue to be around in z/OS 1.11, 1.12 etc? Or, should we be migrating to NFS now?

Many thanks for any info.
Andrew McLaren
