I had this problem a while ago when I bought a new laptop with Windows 7.
As I understand it, Windows Explorer calls a "shell extension" called "pdfshell.dll", usually provided by your PDF file viewer of choice. The shell extension that comes with Adobe Reader is 32-bit. Windows 7 Explorer is 64-bit. They don't work together. If you download an alternative PDF file viewer, it may have a 64-bit shell extension which will provide the missing functionality. I believe I went with something from Tracker Software, which solved the problem. (It was free!) The good: Once the shell extension is installed, you can still use Adobe Reader as well as, or instead of, the alternative PDF file viewer. The bad: The first time I go into Windows Explorer to look at my downloaded IBM Pubs (about 500 books, or so), it does take a minute or two to populate the title field, one at a time. The ugly: Microsoft does not feel obliged to provide this function as standard. * * I believe Microsoft has had past legal problems involving PDF, despite its being an accepted standard. Microsoft also does not supply a "print to PDF" printer. You can download these also. === > Date: Thu, 5 Jul 2012 08:18:11 -0700 > From: mark.yu...@paccar.com > Subject: Searching for a cross=reference list of manuals ... > To: IBM-MAIN@LISTSERV.UA.EDU > > I am searching for a cross-reference list for the manuals I downloaded > for 1.13. Windows 7 doesn't work that way for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
