As the author of V/FORCE-XA and V/FORCE-ESA (now owned by CA and probably long dead), I feel qualified to answer: "With difficulty". Having said that, your likeliest candidates are tapes. If there are any tape drives attached, try HALTing those devices, although this doesn't do much on modern systems. If there's no tape in the drive, insert a scratch tape; that might help. Any other "peculiar" device might be worth tinkering with, too: a Memorex 1270, for example (that's a joke - surely the only ones surviving are in museums!). But anything that's physical and might be in an unhappy state. Even DASD, if one was BOXED by CP, though that's pretty rare nowadays, I expect.
