Mac OS X came along recently enough that it supports only one file
size model. But this caused me problems when I ported GNU findutils
which is old enough that it used 32-bit integers for file sizes. I think
it's better nowadays. But ZFS, reportedly 128-bit oriented, looms on
the horizon.

I think base member names are restricted to 8 characters; aliases may be bigger.
And the rules for program object libraries may be different from those for other
PDSEs. Go figger.

As I initially encountered UNIX after too much familiarity with MVS, I quickly
came to appreciate the significance of the first 3 characters, "UNI".
Conventions
within an Operating System are not an area where I celebrate diversity.
