And that's the problem, in a nutshell. The reason I am looking to start another STC is that initiators may be down. If I knew initiators would be up, I would just submit a batch job and call it done. In fact, I do that today but want to avoid problems when initiators are not available.

Other way is to use one of the tools from CBT to issue a command. In that scenario you last step in started task run the program. Program parameters contain you command - START STC.
