I may be wasting your time, Lizette, but one day during the runup to Y2K I lost a lot of hours over a message claiming that a file was in use. A coworker eventually guessed (correctly) that it may have been referring not to the dataset but to the DD.
My memory claims this message was issued by TSO, but come to think of it I was doing some programming with NDM at that client: It may even have been a Connect:Direct message;.
