NC et al provide only two result possibilities; TM provides three. But since the OP did say "a bit" of a storage area, NC may work. But it has, the side effect of changing one of the operands. There are newish NRK/NRG instructions that have three operands, and so (say) R0 could be used for the first. But these work on 32 or 64 bits in registers, and so would need yet more setup to work on the one byte under discussion.
