How would you automate dated change bars in, e.g, word?

That's probably automated and could be done as well, perhaps better with  
WYSIAYG
than markup.  No need for the condescending "A".

But I notice that in both XEDIT and Vim, Undo can leave a spurious memorandum
of a change.
