Dave,
I might open an SR/ETR with IBM. Is it possible that the x'5a' (Dec 90 or
Exclamation point) is a corrupted value?

Since it is on an OPEN is it a STATUS CODE 90 response? Did you verify the
90 upon open? The 90 is (I think) like a NOP - no problems.

It is also possible it is one of their undocumented codes that means
something to IBM internally.

Otherwise I would think it would be documented.

What kind of vsam - ESDS, KSDS, etc...

Subject: Undocumented VSAM Return/reason code

Hi,

I need a little help here... I'm getting an ACB OPEN failure, with RC=X'08'
and Reason=X'5A'. So I went to "DFSMS Macro Instructions for Data Sets"
(SC26-7408), to "Table 8: OPEN Reason Codes in the ACBERFLG Field of the
ACB" to look it up, and lo... there's this hole where X'5A' ought to be.
X'58' is there, X'5C' is there, but not X'5A' [sigh].

Does anyone supply the missing information?

Thanks!
