Everyone,

I support a secure government environment that has limited ability to connect
directly to vendor software download sites and am embarking on effort to
upgrade our SAS for ZOS from 9.4.7 to 9.4.8 - you would think simple / simon
but is my first time with this software package install/upgrade and am
struggling with the process SAS dictates to get software from there sites.
They use a tool called SAS download manager - one for ZOS, Windows, Linux, etc.
Curious for those sites that have SAS for ZOS, how are you getting software
from SAS site to your ZOS system(s)? SAS does not offer any sort of FTP like
functionality and forces you to use download manager which unfortunately is not
so simple to use - at least not on ZOS. SAS packaging for ZOS relies very
heavily on Unix System Services for the packaging, install, maintenance, and
deployments/customization.

One other item, if you have engaged SAS support on regular basis, how would you
rate your SAS support experience? Mine to say the least is challenging - one
of the issues we've run into under SAS 9.4.7 is interfacing SAS 9.4.7 with CICS
web services and ATTLS - they seem to not be too savvy in this space - found
out they do not have / nor test CICS in there ZOS / lab test environment at all
and we have programmer who has written code for SAS to talk to CICS web
services to extract information. This is one of the reasons we are moving to
SAS 9.4.8 as they repackage the OpenSSL such that it now relies on system SSL
libraries / encryption routines vs. packing there own.

Anyways if interested in talking further / sharing experiences / or maybe have
some good contacts relative to SAS, please let me know. Appreciate any/all
ideas.

Thanks in advance,

Steve Estle
