I don't have experience with this but we can discuss this from the ENV variable
perspective.
There will be times the env variable will be lost and there will be times it is
propagated.
I have my suspicions, but I can't say who honors this variable nor who needs to
honor it.
I wouldn't expect env variables to be propagated thru multiple steps of a job.
Within a single step or processes (fork, spawn, ...), env variables may or may
not be propagated.
