If a program does not "call" anything it will generally survive running above 
2G if written correctly. That "survivability" is the operating system's to-do. 
Or if you call only things that document (and implement) that they can 
successfully be called from above 2G.
By "generally" I exclude such things as the program's changing a PSW that will 
take effect to have only the low 31 bits of the >2G address. But such a program 
would not, I'd say, be "written correctly".
