I recall that SHR(4) does not allow a PUT request that adds to the end of a data set (GC268-3838 page 46 - other manuals are available!). Similarly, it does not allow CA splits. I think this is due to the need to update the HxRBAs.
I understand the HxRBAs are maintained in the private area of each address space where the VSAM file is OPENed, and there is no mechanism whereby a change to the HxRBAs in one address space can be communicated to other address spaces which have OPENed the same VSAM file, thereby "capturing" the HxRBAs at the time of the OPEN.
