Except for one MAJOR difference - PASS will leave the tape mounted (although it might rewind it) while KEEP will unload the tape (requiring the tape to need to be reloaded to read another file on the tape) at CLOSE. I do not remember when when the final disposition of a PASSed file is done if it does not get referenced in a subsequent step. I have the impression that it occurs at JOB TERM time. BTW: If the SVC99 (with DISP=PASS) is done in the last/only step then this becomes a non-issue if the intent is to dynamically access multiple files on the same tape volume and you use DISP=PASS to keep the volume mounted.
