Gmail could, in the sense that it is within Google's technical capacity, deal with this problem. It has instead elected to discover that characteristic, long-standing LISTSERV behavior is a species of 'phishing'.
This position has no technical merit. It is, I suppose, convenient; but it opens Google to suspicions of low-level venality that may well be totally absent.
