Just chip, Martin. I got a new chip card last week and used it at Tesco in the UK. Sure, it had to read the chip and could not be swiped, but no PIN, just sign as usual and compare signatures - seems the Brits are much more stringent in checking signatures on cards than in the US. ALH

That went into effect as of October 1. That is why all the credit cards are being reissued with chips.
