When I got my first job, that was the basic reason. The director of I.T.
decided to convert from DOS/VS to OS/VS1 because he was "ashamed" to admit
to other directors that his shop was DOS and not OS. It was a very well run
DOS shop, with some really good, smart, people. I was hired simply because
I new the basics of assembler and OS JCL. Straight of out college. Didn't
know CICS, or VSAM, or even way "systems programming" was. I was applying
for an applications job. And watching the apps manager's eyes glaze over.
