that is the exception.. Not the rule.
My point is that there shouldn't be a myriad of statements - JAVA_HOME
should be set in one place and available to everything that needs it.
Only tasks that need something different should need to specify their
own JAVA_HOME.
The only reason why we have it in a myriad of places is that there is
no easy way on z/OS to set an environment variable system-wide. Maybe
that horse has bolted, but I do think it is better to work towards
common standards rather than inventing yet another way z/OS is
different to everything else.
I'm in absolute agreement with that. I don't understand why anybody
would want to use symlinks when they use environment variables. I
certainly wouldn't do it on my linux systems.
