I saw the demo at the Pentagon in late 70's. I think it was 11.98 cm wire  
for nano, coil of wire for micro and a firehose for milli. She had a low 
opinion  of Pentagon intelligence for technology.
 
Saw the bug slide show in '76 at Ft. Ben in Indianapolis. Ted was correct  
it was a relay.
 
Von Neuman had another hat during WWII, He was assigned to the 'Budget  
Office' and was given the task of contractor review. They would have to bring 
in  the double entry summary of active projects. Imagine getting a ding of  
'pages 9,13 and 16 don't crossfoot! We'll see you at 6am tomorrow for a  
revised review'.
