Jython itself is still being maintained up to 2.7, not sure what the state 
of the z/OS port is. I raised this bug a few years ago: 
http://bugs.jython.org/issue550200. They say it should be fixed now but 
they have no means of testing it so I will have to give it a whirl at some 
point.

You will have to use on of the older Python markdown packages as the 
newer ones tend to use Python 3.
