So it depends on the Hardware vendor. I have EMC, so I have the ability to run an STC and send commands to the DLm to see what is on what tape drives.
I would think other hardware vendors might have a similar interface. Or could operations have a dedicated console logged on to the controller of the tape drive and see it that way? Or do you have a software tool like CA-Vantage that can do that easily?
